Racial harmony in NZ? Yeah Right!

While I'm not a professional historian, I have read a bit of NZ history, and I don't think govt policy in NZ has changed much since the development of the land taking court in the 1800's. It seems fairly clear that the plan was to do whatever was required to make Maori dependent on govt charity (such as it is), while creating resentment against Maori at the same time by loudly proclaiming how much taxpayer funding was going towards 'smoothing the pillow of the dying race'. Naturally not much of the funding gets past those administering such charitable acts, but 'oh well, we're doing our best".
IMHO, the only change in these policies has been to get everyone, not just Maori, into a state of dependancy on govt funding. The goal seems to be to increase the power of those who administer such handouts. What's scary about Helen Clark is that I think she has a coherent plan for using that power once she's gained it.
